"I have always been an artist. Art is the first thing I remember falling in love with; my first easel was at age 5."
-Wendy Myers
Q: What mediums do you use for your paintings?
A: I use watercolors. I knew this was my medium the first time I picked up a brush and painted with watercolors. It felt like I was drawing with color. It was a perfect fit!
Q: How do you create your illustrations?
A: There are several ways. Sometimes I do the entire illustration in watercolors. Sometimes it is a sketch with waterproof ink, then watercolor on top. And sometimes I do a detailed sketch, scan it into my computer, and use my Wacom tablet to finish it in Photoshop.
Q: How did you get started in making illustrations for children’s books?
A: Some of my first paintings were for my own child. Then I did many paintings for Camp Greystone, which is a girls camp in NC. That really ignited my fire to illustrate. I also write, but my story first comes to me in images, which I scribble down all during the day and night.
Q: I like to draw. How can I become a professional artist?
A: Draw all the time! Lots and lots of practice. Always be on the lookout for other artist’s work that you like, and study it. Go to museums. Take art classes. Check out other artist’s websites. Join artist groups. The most important thing is don’t give up. Everyone has different views, so not everyone will love your art. It also means someone will love your art. So keep drawing, keep growing, keep trying. Ask questions of other artists.
Q: You have giclee prints for sale. What are they?
A: A giclee print is a print done on an inkjet printer using lightfast archival ink and printed on the finest acid-free paper. It is specifically designed for the rigorous and precise criteria of fine art collectors of museum quality, limited edition prints. The process is so precise, the finished gicle’e image retains the shades, hues, and every nuance of the original image. All my giclee prints are signed and numbered by me. They are usually a limited number of prints produced. I also provide you with a signed certificate of authenticity.
Q: Do you sell giclee prints of all your work?
A: No. If you see a painting you would like to purchase a giclee print of, please contact me for print size and availability. I usually list if a print is available, but if it doesn’t say so, ask me.
Q: What about shipping fees and methods?
A: I will ship by your preferrred methods; UPS, USPS, Fedex. Shipping fees will be discussed at the time of sale, as sizes and fees can differ greatly.
